Terry is a Charlotte native and now lives in Concord, North Carolina. She has one daughter, Tasha, who she homeschooled from 5th grade to graduation and is now a college graduate of both Central Piedmont CC and Appalachian State University. Tasha is also Terry's interpreter when needed and her assistant in her classes at times.
As a certified as an Early Childhood Education educator from SPCC in Monroe N.C. as well as American Sign Language (ASL) with Michigan State University, she is also Hard-of-Hearing and unable to use verbal speech as a form of communication due to having cancer over 19 years ago. Sign Language is the language she lives with and uses every day and for this reason, she is very passionate about teaching the accurate and correct form of ASL to all of her students. This is so that students can feel confident when communicating through their knowledge from the class in sign language.
She has been teaching this detailed and culturally rich language for over 18 years and has taught classes at both of The Homeschool Room locations in Matthews and Huntersville, N.C. for the past 14 years total, as well as teaching in a variety of locations in Concord, Gastonia, and Mooresville. She has also taught Deaf Children and Senior Citizens specifically those who were losing their hearing to communicate through signs.
In her free time also enjoys sewing, quilting, and most crafts, as well as a bit of gardening from time to time!
